Planned gift makes for enduring personal legacy

The Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games have come and gone but the Games’ legacy lives on. From state-of-the-art sporting venues and a new airport express passenger train, to an athletes village transformed into a mixed-use neighbhourhood with affordable housing, the infrastructure left behind will benefit communities for years to come.

Have you considered your legacy? Architect, philanthropist, former elite athlete and community-builder Doug Allen thought about his and joined Mackenzie Health Foundation’s Legacy Society last year, leaving a gift for Mackenzie Health in his will.

For 43 years, Doug has counted on Mackenzie Health and the hospital has always delivered exceptional care. “It never occurred to me to go anywhere else, I didn’t have to go anywhere else,” said Doug. “The surgeons have been excellent and the care terrific.”

Doug gives both globally and locally. He sees Mackenzie Health as part of the fabric of Richmond Hill and York Region, an essential component. “I want to give back as much as I can,” Doug said.

A legacy gift allows you to contribute to a registered charity such as Mackenzie Health Foundation, while providing tax benefits to you or your estate. Your support helps fund equipment crucial to providing exceptional care.

You are joining a group of visionary donors committed to ensuring future generations have access to world-class healthcare right here, close to home, in southwest York Region.

A legacy gift may include:

  • A will bequest;
  • Stocks, bonds or mutual funds;
  • A life income arrangement, such as a charitable remainder trust of gift annuity;
  • Property such as art or real estate;
  • A new, full or partial paid insurance policy;
  • RRRPs or RRIFs.

Membership also has its privileges. As a society member, you will be invited to our annual recognition event and hospital tours, and your name will be listed on our Legacy Society donor wall.

Doug has his reasons for making a gift, “I’ve been very lucky in my life, I’ve taken chances, I’ve made some bucks and I can’t take them with me.”

What are yours?
