Mackenzie Health and Infrastructure Ontario have announced that Plenary Health will design, build, finance and maintain the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
“This is an exciting step forward for the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. We will soon break ground on this state-of-the-art new facility that will offer high-quality health care to the community in Vaughan,” Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, said following the August 29 announcement.
The preferred proponent was selected after extensive evaluations following a fair, open and transparent request for proposals process that began in June 2015.
“This is a significant step forward moving us closer toward the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital,” Altaf Stationwala, Mackenzie Health President and CEO, said. “With groundbreaking only a few months away, we remain on track to delivering a state-of-the-art hospital as part of Mackenzie Health’s vision to create a world-class health experience for the people of Vaughan and all of York Region.”
The Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital project is expected to reach commercial and financial close this fall, when relevant contracts have been signed and a financing rate has been set. The contract cost will be announced publicly following financial close, with construction scheduled to begin later this fall, according to Infrastructure Ontario.
The Plenary Health team includes: Plenary Group (Canada) Ltd., which also worked on the Humber River Hospital and Bridgepoint Hospital projects; Stantec Architecture Ltd.; PCL Constructors; Johnson Controls Canada LP; and Plenary Group (Canada) Ltd.
Mackenzie Health Foundation President and CEO Ingrid Perry welcomed the exciting milestone in the project by congratulating Mr. Stationwala, the Mackenzie Health Board of Directors and hospital team.
“This is one very significant step closer to the much anticipated commencement of construction this fall. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with our donors and community partners,” Ms. Perry said. “The Foundation’s Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign is continuing to engage our community and inspire philanthropy across our region.
